Background
Phillip Riese is an Operating Advisor at Staley Capital with over 20 years of experience in executive management positions for major global financial services companies, including as President of American Express’s Consumer Services Group and as Chairman of American Express Centurion Bank. Prior to American Express, he was a Division Executive at Chase Manhattan Bank and a partner at M.C. Geffen, a consulting firm in South Africa. Phillip has also been a venture capital investor for over 20 years through his firm RIESE & Others, where his focus is financial technology and data analytics.
Phillip was previously CEO of two early stage companies, and currently serves on the boards of Accion, Behalf, Betterment, Cross River Bank, eWise Systems, Flywire, Fundera, Syncapay Relay Network, Remitly, Yoyo Wallet, and Zopa. He previously served on the boards of Aspen Marketing Services and Parago alongside Renny Smith.
Phillip holds a joint degree in Textile Engineering and Economics from Leeds University in England, an M.B.A. from the University of Cape Town in South Africa, and a Master’s Degree in Management from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
