The Investment Philosophy
The Investment Philosophy
Consumer behavior changes first. Enterprises adapt next. The platforms built for that adaptation become durable investments.
Staley Capital's investment process begins with a question most firms do not ask: how are consumers changing how they spend time and money, and what does that mean for the enterprises that serve them?
This is not a consumer investing approach. It is a B2B approach informed by consumer insight. The consumer is the signal. The enterprise software and applied AI platform built to help operators respond to that signal is the investment.
We invest in the second-order opportunity created when consumer behavior changes at scale."
Our Repeatable Process
Across multiple innovation cycles, Staley has applied the same three-step framework:
Identify a Secular Shift
We track how consumers are changing their behavior across retail, dining, media, and service categories. Not trends. Not fads. Secular shifts. Durable changes in how people spend time and money that do not reverse when the novelty fades.
Map the Second-Order Enterprise Opportunity
We identify the operational opportunities these shifts create for enterprises. When consumer expectations change, operators face pressure to adapt. The B2B platforms built to enable that adaptation are where we invest.
Invest at the Right Moment
We target the window after early signals are real but before mainstream adoption drives up valuations and competition. This requires timing discipline and the willingness to invest before consensus forms.

What We Look For
We are stage-specific and sector-specific by design. Our criteria are not rules. They are indicators that signal the right moment for us to act.
Revenue: $5 to $20 million ARR
Companies at early commercial maturity with real customers, real revenue, real usage. Not pre-revenue, not pre-product.
Unit Economics: Strong and improving
Capital-efficient growth with a credible line of sight to $100 million or more in ARR as the category matures.
Market Position: Nice-to-have becoming must-have
The solution is clearly moving from optional to essential, but has not yet become table stakes. The window where incumbency and category leadership are still up for grabs.
Founder Profile: Vision plus operational ambition
Founders who see the category they are building, have demonstrated early sales execution, and are ready to institutionalize what comes next.
Where We Focus
Our domain expertise is concentrated, not broad. We invest in consumer-facing B2B categories where we have seen the secular shift pattern play out before and understand the dynamics well enough to recognize the timing signal.

Trends continue to evolve, and so does our investment portfolio. We remain committed to supporting these second-order opportunities.
How We Think About Timing
We evaluate market maturity using practical signals that tell us where a category sits in its development. Staley is not a bleeding-edge investor. Being first is not the goal. Being right about when adoption accelerates is.
Evangelical Sale
Educating prospects who have never seen the solution before. Too early for Staley in most cases.

Early RFP-Driven Sales
Buyers know the category exists and are evaluating vendors. The solution is moving from optional to required. Category leadership is still contestable.
STALEY’S TARGET WINDOW

Mainstream Adoption
The solution is becoming table stakes. Still interesting, but valuations reflect it.

Saturation and Commoditization
Pricing pressure, consolidation, and margin compression begin. Not where Staley wants to enter.
